Here is our recommendation based on your responses
You are: Producer
Status: Getting started with HRDD
Because you are the foundation of the seafood supply chain, the good practices you implement play a fundamental role in improving working conditions and upholding a socially responsible seafood industry. Due to the often physically challenging nature of the work, some of the most challenging human rights issues and risks are present at your level of the supply chain and require dedicated attention to overcome.
Setting expectations and goals is an essential component of human rights due diligence (HRDD). Start by identifying senior level staff members who will be responsible for developing and implementing your HRDD program.
The Embed step in the Roadmap is a good place to start to develop your program. It includes a background on human rights in seafood, information on how to develop HRDD goals and timelines, and guidance on implementing human rights programs with your administrative staff. The Embed step also includes direct advice and guidance to begin developing your program, such as:
- Review and update decision-making and business practices that support your commitments and commit to HRDD as an ongoing process.
- Define concrete goals, milestones, and assessment metrics for company HRDD implementation.
- Budget for staff training and integration of human rights accountability and performance indicators.
- Train employee teams to incorporate HRDD activities and your company policies into their day-to-day work.
