Charles is an environmental and social consultant specializing in seafood and aquaculture supply chains. As the Director of Aquaculture and Monitoring at Key Traceability, he leads and contributes to diverse projects that drive environmental and social responsibility in fisheries and aquaculture globally.

With expertise spanning Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, he works across various gear types and species to improve sustainability and traceability. In addition, he coordinate Aquaculture Improvement Projects (AIPs) in multiple countries, focusing on driving sustainability in aquaculture systems. He has supported and implemented the Sustainable Trade Initiative’s (IDH) 2021–2025 aquaculture strategy, using metrics-based environmental footprinting to promote positive change across supply chains.

He also conduct social audits of fishing vessels and facilities, applying SA8000 training to assess working conditions and ensure compliance with global standards (STF, etc) and sourcing requirements of customers. Additionally, he holds certifications as a MarinTrust assessor and have relevant MSC training.

My work also includes preparing project reports and providing strategic insights for clients across NGOs, government and the private sector, often linking all these stakeholders together under common projects.

Regarding education, I hold a Master of Science, with my thesis focusing on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Product Chain Organization methodologies in the Vietnamese fishmeal and low-value fisheries industry. This foundation provided me with a strong understanding of quantitative sustainability metrics (e.g., carbon footprinting). I am committed to ongoing learning and regularly update my knowledge and skills to stay at the forefront of emerging methods and innovations in sustainability thinking.

Overall, I am passionate about fostering environmental and social responsibility within food commodity supply chains, particularly in seafood, by using evidence-based approaches and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to integrate their often varied perspectives.
